HEART OF LAPLAND

Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland, located on the Northern Arctic Circle. As a travel destination, Rovaniemi is above all known as the hometown of Santa Claus, a town where the wonders of Lapland, proximity of nature, and the services provided by this modern town can easily be experienced throughout the year.

A holiday in Rovaniemi is indeed a versatile combination of thrilling safaris and nature adventures. The Santa Claus Village and Ounasvaara Skiing Centre are located very close to the town centre, and Pyhä with its national park and Ranua with its zoo are excellent day trip destinations when staying in Rovaniemi. Holidays in Rovaniemi can include shopping, culture and night life. Flight time from Helsinki to Rovaniemi takes around an hour and every day has a number of connections to choose from by plane or train.

Rovaniemi shows off its new sides during the different seasons: the amount of daylight, temperature and natural phenomena characteristically label each of the distinct eight seasons. Beginning in May, people are enticed to Rovaniemi by the Midnight Sun, a variety of summertime events, as well as nature experiences from river boat safaris to white water rafting. During the frosty twilight period you can ride snowmobiles through snowy forests or on the frozen rivers. Although Christmas only comes once a year, Rovaniemi has a piece of Christmas to share on every day of the year. Rovaniemi is the hometown of Santa Claus and he may be met at the Arctic Circle on every day of the year.

Welcome to Rovaniemi, Lapland’s beating heart.
