Pyhä-Luosto National Park
The spectacular Pyhä-Luosto National Park is located in the municipalities of Pelkosenniemi, Kemijärvi and Sodankylä was established in 2005 and covers approximately 142 square kilometres. The national park offers a diverse range of nature experiences in its South Lapland nature while making the Pyhä-Luosto fell range into an outstanding conservation region. The central section of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park is formed by a 35 kilometre long fell range, which remains of one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges. It was created over 2000 years ago. The excess of 150 kilometres of marked trails in the Pyhä-Luosto National Park give the visitor an excellent cross-section of Lappish nature. The Pyhätunturi Nature Centre is a good place to start your holiday in the Pyhä-Luosto area. The Nature Centre provides information for people wishing to traverse the magnificent Pyhä-Luosto National Park. The permanent exhibition “From the bottom of the ocean to a national park” tells of the time Pyhä-Luosto and the national park were formed.

Amethyst Mine
Within the immediate vicinity of the Luosto fell resort is Europe’s only functioning Amethyst Mine. The Lampivaara Amethyst Mine is probably one of the only gemstone mines in the world that welcomes visitors. From the mine on the fell summit, you are led into the fascinating world of gemstones. During the one-hour programme you will learn about the geological history of the area and the secrets behind the gemstones. The finding of your own stone will firmly establish the personal meaningful experience. The mine is open daily.
