ART & HISTORY
The Puustelli International Art Centre houses a collection of wooden sculptures made by international artists. The ethnographic Museum tells of life in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. There are also themed exhibitions. The Snowmobile Museum has snowmobiles from the entire snowmobiling history and other material related to snowmobile culture. The museums are open in the summer and by arrangement for groups in the winter.
Kemijärvi Church, the old bell tower, church lands, old vicarage with environs and North Finland’s only flogging tree form an entirety comprising everyday life and church history. The story boards tell of historical and modern day Kemijärvi.
EXCURSIONS IN THE NATIONAL PARK
Day trips to the nearby national parks are popular during times of no snow cover (usually from May to early October):
Pyhä-Luosto National Park and Nature Centre in Pyhätunturi. Diverse fell nature.
Oulanka National Park and Nature Centre. Especially river nature.
Other national parks: The UKK National Park is great for people who prefer longer hikes. The Riisitunturi National Park is suitable for day trips.
EXPERIENCE FIVE FELLS
The neighbouring area of Kemijärvi has five fells – kilometres of downhill skiing slopes, a variety of cross-country skiing trails and activity services – so fell enthusiasts have plenty to choose from:
» Approximately 45-minute drive to
Pyhä
» Approximately one hour’s drive to
Luosto
» Approximately half an hour’s drive to
Suomu
» Approximately one hour’s drive to
Salla
» Less than 1½ hours to

During the skiing season there are day trip bus journeys available to the fells. It is worth checking the bus timetable in advance as the departure times vary.
In the town centre of Kemijärvi there is a diverse cross-country skiing trial network for those wanting to stay in the town, visit the spa and swimming halls Poukama and use the town’s services.
