CLIMATE
Lapland belongs to a continental climatic zone characterised by snowy winters, and due to the Gulf Stream, relatively warm summers. Each year in Lapland is unique with regard to sunshine, freezing temperatures and precipitation, but the four seasons of Lapland remain very distinct. You can be sure to have the best travel experiences when you keep an open mind and prepare yourself for the prevailing season with the correct clothing and equipment.
The annual temperatures vary from +20°C in the summer to -20°C in the winter. Days that are even warmer are not rare, but there are not many very hot days in the summertime. In the wintertime the temperatures may fall to minus thirty degrees a number of times, and the wind chill factor makes it feel even colder. The average temperature for the winter months January – February is approximately -13.5°C, and for the summer month of July the average temperature is +14°C. The number of days in Lapland with snow varies from 175 days to 225 days a year.
